The PZL P.11 was a Polish fighter aircraft, designed and constructedduring the early 1930s by Warsaw-basedaircraftmanufacturer PZL. Possessinganall-metal structure, metal-covering, and high-mountedgullwing, the typeheld the distinction of beingwidelyconsidered to havebrieflybeen the most advanced fighter aircraft of itskind in the world.
The design of the P.11 commencedduring the late 1920s, initiallydesignated as the P.1. The primaryindividualresponsible for its development was Polishaeronauticalengineer Zygmunt Puławski, whohasbeenattributed as havingdesignedmany of itsinnovativefeatures. While the majority of the world'sforceswerestillusingbiplanes, the P.1 used a high-mounted and aerodynamicallycleangullwing, whichprovided the pilot with a superior field of view. DuringSeptember 1929, the firstprototypeconducteditsmaidenflight. The design quickly drew internationalattention; the general layout becamecommonlyknown as the "Polishwing" or "Puławski wing".
